INSULA
design Luca Scacchetti, 2008
Insula is a different way of conceiving sofa: it is sitting, lying down, relaxing, socialising, conversing, looking at each other; a new way of using space, both domestic and larger such as lobbies and waiting areas in hotels and large offices. Insula is a center, a block, an island that overlooks four streets. Insula changes the perception of our spaces, denies the single directionality, the front and the back; in its freedom of sitting, posture and position it makes us perceive our interiors as dilated three-dimensional spaces. Its modularity and transformability, its being a system are underlined and reiterated by the squared pattern of the stitching and by the essentiality of the shape.
