PASO DOBLE
design Luca Scacchetti, 2002
A simple and slender easel doubles up on the short sides of the desk. A “formal insistence”, a repetition, a doubling, the reduce of a more compact and massive leg to its own skeleton, to its own margin lines, to its own limits. From the easels starting the metal brackets, also doubled, shaped according to a broken line, which support a light and suspended surface: a sort of aerial covering of a more solid and architectural construction below. All the geometry and the subtle relationships between the elementary forms that make up this series are on tiptoe, hyper-controlled, planned and with their own precise rules. As in a ballet, where the apparent naturalness of the steps and movements ritually follow pre-established and infinitely repeatable patterns. The containers also play on reiteration, on repetition. A “formal stutter” used as a means to restore meaning and attention to listening. The repeated element is therefore a slender and long handle in folded saddle leather.
Saddle leather, black walnut wood and metal are the materials of this Paso Doble, a ballet of shapes, where lightness and rule continually intersect without stumbles.
